From 2011–2019, Game of Thrones was the must-see show on TV, and for good reason: HBO's fantasy epic, based on George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novels, introduced viewers to a world rich in interpersonal drama, political intrigue, and grand adventure. Despite its divisive final seasons, Game of Thrones remains one of the most entertaining series available on streaming. (IGN ranked it as one of the ten best TV shows of all time.)
If you're wondering where you can watch Game of Thrones right now, as well as the various spin-offs, we've got you covered with an up-to-date guide for 2026 below. You can also check out our picks for the best Game of Thrones episodes if you're looking for a solid rewatch of something specific.

House of the Dragon Season 3 (Happening Now)
The first Game of Thrones spinoff is House of the Dragon. Based on George R.R. Martin’s novel of Targaryen history, Fire & Blood, House of the Dragon is a prequel set 200 years before Game of Thrones.
Both season 1 and 2 are available to stream on HBO Max now and you can also buy the full seasons on 4K and Blu-ray. New episodes of season 3 are still releasing on HBO every Sunday until the finale airs on August 9.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2
The first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has wrapped up, but we already know that season 2 is expected sometime in 2027. HBO released a roadmap for upcoming Westeros content, with plans for the next season of the popular new show.
If you want to watch A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms without a streaming subscription, there's a 4K Blu-ray version now available. It was released in June 2026.
Other Spinoffs
Several other Game of Thrones spinoffs are in various stages of development, though none besides the two listed above has been greenlit. These potential spinoffs include a live-action series about Aegon's Conquest and at least two animated series: 9 Voyages (about the voyages of Corlys Velaryon aka the Sea Snake) and an untitled project about The Golden Empire of Yi Ti.
HBO has permanently or temporarily shelved a number of other Game of Thrones spinoffs, including The Long Night, Flea Bottom, a Jon Snow spinoff, and 10,000 Ships.
Upcoming Game of Thrones Books
The Winds of Winter
Martin is working on several additions to the literary world of A Song of Ice and Fire, most notably The Winds of Winter, the sixth book in the mainline series. The novel will pick up after the events of Book 5, A Dance with Dragons.
The Winds of Winter will move "further and further away from the television series," according to Martin, who most recently said he's 75% done with the book. He predicts it’ll be over 1,500 pages by the time he’s done.
For a recap of all the available information regarding the novel, check out our breakdown of everything we know about Winds of Winter.
A Dream of Spring
The Winds of Winter will (hopefully) be followed by A Dream of Sping, the planned seventh and final book in Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire saga. There is no timeline for its potential release.
Fire & Blood Volume 2
Outside of the mainline saga, Martin is writing a second volume of his Targaryen history, possibly titled Blood & Fire, that will cover the second 150 years of the Targaryen reign. Volume 1, Fire & Blood, covered the first 150 years.
Future Dunk & Egg Novellas
Martin also wants to expand his series of Dunk and Egg novellas, though he doesn’t plan to publish these until he finishes Winds.
One future Dunk & Egg story is set in Winterfell, according to Martin, and involves “a group of formidable Stark wives, widows, mothers, and grandmothers that I dubbed ‘the She-Wolves.’” He added, “The final title, when I finish the story, will be something different. There's also another Dunk & Egg novella that I've got roughed out in my head, with the working title ‘The Village Hero’. That one takes place in the Riverlands. There's no telling when I will have time to finish either of these, or which one I will write first. I don't expect I will know more until I've delivered The Winds of Winter.”
The author has “notes and fairly specific ideas” for other Dunk & Egg adventures as well, including stories with the potential titles The Sellsword, The Champion, The Kingsguard, The Lord Commander, “and several more in between.”
