Spider-Noir, Nicolas Cage to Campaign in the Emmys’ Comedy Category - IGN Image

Spider-Noir, the upcoming superhero series starring Nicolas Cage, debuts on MGM+ on May 25, 2026, and then on Prime Video on May 27, allowing Spider-Noir to qualify for the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards just ahead of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ May 31st cutoff date for consideration.

While you might think an action-oriented, period superhero show might be considered a drama, the awards site Gold Derby exclusively reports that Spider-Noir will actually campaign in the Comedy category of the Emmys.

As Gold Derby points out, that would pit Spider-Noir against the likes of perennial Emmy nominees Hacks, Only Murders in the Building, and Shrinking, or see Nic Cage in the running for the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series against the likes of Martin Short or Jason Segel.

"Nicolas Cage delivers a singular, deeply original take on Ben Reilly, and I’m incredibly excited for audiences to see his performance," co-showrunner and executive producer Oren Uziel told Gold Derby.

"Alongside an exceptional ensemble cast — including Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston, and Brendan Gleeson — this was a truly unforgettable collaboration, and I hope audiences feel that spirit."

Set in an alternate universe 1930s New York City, Spider-Noir follows gumshoe Ben Reilly (Cage) as his latest case has him cross paths with the city’s biggest gangster, Silvermane (Gleeson), and his super-powered cronies.

Spider-Noir will be available to watch in both Authentic Black & White and True-Hue Color.
