Apple’s Watch models, the Series, Ultra, and SE, are some of the best smartwatches you can buy, and a great band can make them even better. Apple Watch bands enable you to personalize the smartwatch, adding extra comfort, durability, or even style to the already brilliant device. Additionally, it’s easy enough to swap out bands depending on the occasion, be it a training session or an elegant dinner.
The Apple Watch Sport Band has been around since the release of the first Apple Watch Series for a reason; it’s durable, comfortable, and sleek, making it our favorite band. However, suppose you want to splash out on something a little more flashy, opt for an affordable gem, or prefer a different material. In that case, I’ve selected several other top-tier Apple Watch bands to suit just about anyone. Check them out below:
TL;DR – These are the best Apple Watch bands to buy:
The latest and greatest Apple Watch models include the Series 11, Ultra 3, and SE 3, all of which were released in September and offer significant upgrades over their predecessors. Luckily, these new smartwatches keep similar case dimensions to older models, making them backward compatible with most bands. Still, I’ve ensured that every band on this guide will work seamlessly with the Apple Watch Series 11, Ultra 3, and SE 3, as well as noting the older Apple Watch models that will fit.
Thanks to the vast selection of Apple Watch faces, sizes, types, and cases, you can truly mix it up when it comes to style, color, and material of the watchband you choose. But when selecting the best Apple Watch band for your needs, always verify that the case size and length match your watch and wrist before making a purchase.

1. Apple Watch Sport Band
Best Apple Watch Band
Apple’s Sport Band is a tried-and-true classic that has been around since the release of the first Apple Watch back in 2015. Combining comfort, durability, and a minimalist design, it offers everything you need from a watch band. Best of all, the Sport Band is designed to fit any Apple Watch, including the Apple Watch Ultra 3, with availability in 40mm, 42mm, and 46mm case size options.
The band is made from fluoroelastomer, a tough, dense rubber that resists sweat, oils, and heat better than other silicone. That rubber retains its elasticity and shape, improving longevity, and is much easier to clean than other materials, like nylon. Just a quick rinse will have the band looking like new. The soft, silky rubber will also feel great on your wrist, but its breathability won’t be as good as that of fabric alternatives.
A pin and tuck closure is used to secure the Sport Band to your wrist. It’s super simple to get it on, thanks to the aluminum pins that just pop into one of the pre-made holes. Most should have no problem doing this one-handed, and don’t worry, the watch will remain safely in place without coming unlatched, even during intense workouts. The only issue some might face is the lack of micro adjustments, so if you’re in between hole sizes, the band may not work. Luckily, this is a rare issue.
New band color options often come out with the latest Watch releases; Anchor Blue, Neon Yellow, and Purple Fog are the newest additions to the Sport Band lineup, and four more color options are available to suit just about anyone's taste. Sure, it’s not the flashiest watch band, but it looks sleek, simple, and not overly sporty.
2. Spigen Lite Fit Ultra Strap
Best Budget Apple Watch Band
Spigen is a brand behind some of the best iPhone cases, and its foray into Apple Watch bands is equally brilliant. Plus, its bands cost a fraction of what Apple’s own offerings go for while still using quality materials and delivering impressive durability. My favorite Spigen band is the Lite Fit Ultra Strap, and it comes in several simple color options for a subdued, sleek look.
The Lite Fit Ultra Strap features a nylon band with stainless steel and zinc alloy components ready to withstand some wear and tear. The fabric is lightweight, breathable, and soft on the wrist, making it feel as if you’re not wearing it at all. Fast drying after sweaty workouts or swims is another plus, and if the band gets a little grimy, it’s easy to wash without any degradation.
Unlike Apple’s Sport Band, the Lite Fit Ultra Strap has a good amount of stretch and can be micro-adjusted to fit any wrist. A buckle will lock that perfect size into place. It’s designed for the Apple Watch Ultra but will work great with 46mm Series 11 and 44mm SE 3 Apple Watches. However, those with smaller wrists may find the wider band a little bulky.
3. Nomad Rugged Band
Best Rugged Apple Watch Band
Need a band that can go anywhere you go? Look no further than the Nomad Rugged Band. It’s the best Apple Watch Ultra band, ready for just about any adventure, from diving to trail running. The tough build pairs perfectly with the Apple Watch Ultra, but it comes in smaller sizes to suit the Apple Series and SE watches; it just might be a little clunky for a small wrist. And I haven’t even mentioned that the Nomad Rugged Band costs far less than Apple’s own Ultra Watch Bands, so you’ll have money to spare to grab a great Apple Watch case for an added dose of protection.
Similar to the Apple Watch Sport Band, the Nomad Rugged Band uses fluoroelastomer to withstand excessive heat, sun damage, chemicals, oils, and other harsh elements. It’s extremely durable but remains lightweight and flexible with special ribbing to help with breathability; although, it's still not as airy as fabric alternatives. A secure fit comes from marine-grade 316 stainless steel buckle and lugs that won’t budge or corrode, no matter what activity you’re doing. However, the fit can’t be perfectly dialed in like the Spigen Lite Fit Ultra Strap.
The Nomad Rugged Band features a sleek and simple design, coming in three color options: blue, black, and orange. Keeping with the subtle design, the lugs and buckle can either be black or silver. Nomad also offers a slimmer Sport Band if you don’t need as rugged a build.
4. Apple Watch Sport Loop
Most Comfortable Apple Watch Band
With extra softness, top-tier breathability, and infinite adjustability, the Apple Watch Sport Loop is an unbelievably comfortable watch band. Rather than rubber, which can feel sticky when wet or sweaty, this band’s nylon, spandex, and polyester material remains airy and plush. A special double-layer weave features a softer interior layer with cushioning that rests on your wrist, allowing sweat to evaporate quickly. The exterior provides extra durability. Although this fabric band attracts more sweat and odor than the fluoroelastomer Sport Band, keeping up with cleaning will make this a non-issue.
The Apple Watch Sport Loop is designed to fit on any wrist thanks to the hook and loop fastener. Unlike a pin and tuck closure, this Velcro-like connector ensures a perfect, micro-adjusted fit. It holds up well over time and keeps the watch securely in place; you can always easily tighten or loosen it before or after a workout. However, just like any Velcro-like fastener, the hook and loop system can occasionally snag on clothes or get fabric stuck in it.
Apple is working on making its products more sustainable, and the Sport Loop Band is one example. It’s made with mostly recycled material and manufactured using clean energy. Apple updates the colors these bands seasonally, with Neon Yellow, Anchor Blue, and Purple Fog being the newest additions. There’s also a Nike Sport Loop with nearly identical features, except it includes a reflective yarn for better safety when out in the dark.
5. Apple Watch Milanese Loop
Most Fashionable Apple Watch Band
If you’re in the camp of people who don’t love the more sporty look of traditional Apple Watch bands, then the Milanese Loop is probably for you. It’s elegant, refined, and a major upgrade from the Sport Loop that typically comes with the Apple Watch Series 11.
Rather than rubber or nylon, the Milanese Loop features a stainless steel mesh based on a design originally developed in 19th-century Milan—hence the name. In fact, Italian machines are still used to create it, resulting in a smooth, lightweight, and surprisingly tough band. Thanks to the mesh, it's decently breathable, while the stainless steel is easy to keep clean. You’re even fine to wear it for milder workouts, although I wouldn’t risk it during weightlifting or rock climbing, which could make it prone to scratches. The mesh can also occasionally catch on clothes or scuff other items, so be sure to remain mindful.
A magnetic clasping system is used to keep the Apple Watch Milanese Loop in place. Micro adjustments are made easy with a magnetic slider, but the magnets can occasionally mess with the watch’s compass. Still, the Milanese Loop elevates your Apple Watch for everyday use, whether at the office or for formal wear, and comes in a few finishes to suit your preferences. A Titanium option is also available for the Apple Watch Ultra.
6. KORDIZ Traditional Leather Band
Best Leather Apple Watch Band
Similar to the Milanese Loop, a leather watch band is a great way to add a bit more style to your Apple Watch. Not all leather bands are created equal, and KORDIZ’s Traditional Leather Band stands above the rest thanks to its quality materials and great price tag. It comes in either black or brown colorway while sporting a traditional, subdued design that doesn’t scream “smart watch.”
This band is made from full-grain leather. That’s the highest grade of leather you can get, ensuring durability and minimizing tearing or stretching. As the leather wears, it develops a lovely patina that just adds to the character. The band may require some breaking in, so be prepared for some initial stiffness. And switching to a rubber or nylon band for workouts will improve longevity. However, its beeswax-lined thread and full-grain leather are relatively waterproof.
To keep this leather band secure, 316L stainless steel lugs and a buckle are used, which won’t tarnish or corrode over time. Micro adjustments, such as those on the Milanese Loop or Sport Loop, aren’t possible, but it should still fit most wrists perfectly. It’s best suited for larger cases due to the wider band. The Ultra 3, 46mm Series 11, and 44mm SE 3 are ideal for this band.
7. Nike Sport Apple Watch Band
Best Apple Watch Band for Athletes
The Nike Watch Sport Band is nearly identical to Apple’s Sport Band except for one major design change to the fluoroelastomer band. Perforations line the band for a more breathable experience when working out or playing sports. These little holes help eliminate moisture more quickly than the classic Sport Band, while still delivering resistance to water, oil, sweat, and sun. This band won’t degrade over time, whether you’re running, swimming, or lifting weights, and it’s easy to clean with a quick rinse.
The same aluminum pin and tuck closure is used with this band, which provides a secure fit. However, there are more options when it comes to sizing, as those perforations double as holes for the pin. The pin even features the signature Nike Swoosh. Still, it can’t compete with Sport Loop when it comes to microadjustments.
The Nike Watch Sport Band looks undeniably sporty, especially with those perforations. While you can get by with the normal Sports Band for everyday wear, this one screams athlete a little too loudly. The cute flake pattern not only adds to the sporty vibe, but also makes these bands stand out over many of Apple’s other, usually simple Watch band offerings.
How to Choose an Apple Watch Band
One of the best features of the Apple Watch is that its watch band is detachable, which makes swapping it out for something else a breeze. While there are endless combinations and possibilities, picking the best Apple Watch band really depends on you and the activities you enjoy the most. Below, I outline what to look for when finding an Apple Watch band.
Material and Use Case
The most common Apple Watch bands are made from rubber, delivering that familiar sport band look. Silicone rubber bands are often cheaper alternatives to the more durable fluoroelastomer, but both provide a flexible, soft feel that works for everyday and workouts. While breathability may not always be great, these bands are waterproof and easy to clean.
Nylon is another popular Watch band material thanks to its breathability and lightweight feel. These comfy bands are ideal for hot weather and sweaty workouts. However, they won’t be as easy to clean as rubber options. Both nylon and rubber bands are versatile options, and will work perfectly well for all-day wear, whether you're heading into the office or hitting the trail on a hike.
Although Apple itself may no longer offer a leather band, numerous third-party options provide a more elevated look with leather. Full-grain leather is the most durable kind, and it even develops a nice patina as you wear it. Still, I wouldn’t recommend leather for swimming or intense workouts. Instead, leather is ideal for work or dressier occasions where the sporty look of rubber or nylon won’t fly.
Metal bands are the most formal and fashionable of all the options. Stainless steel and titanium are extremely durable, while cheaper plated and alloy metals can corrode or chip over time, especially when sweat is involved. Even with high-quality metals, this band type isn’t ideal for workouts, as it has a bit of heft and is not the most breathable.
Closure
When selecting the type of Apple Watch Band you get, the closure type is more important than you’d think. The pin-and-tuck is what you’ll find on the Apple Sport Band. While it’s easy to secure and remains in place during intense workouts, it lacks the flexibility of microadjustments; a similar problem faces buckle closures.
For basically infinite and straightforward adjustments, Velcro or hook-and-loop is the way to go. It’s often used on fabric bands that overlap and stick. Just be prepared for clothes and other fabrics to get stuck occasionally, and some Velcro may lose strength over time.
Magnetic closures overlap and offer micro-adjustments similar to hook and loop. The used magnets are usually strong and reliable, but if caught on something, the watch could be ripped off. Magnets may also throw off the Apple Watch’s compass.
Size
Ensure you select the correct band size for your Apple Watch’s case. The Apple Watch Series 11 comes in 42mm and 46mm sizes. The Apple Watch Ultra 3 is 49mm, and the Apple Watch SE 3 is available in 40mm or 44mm sizes. If unsure of your Apple Watch type or size, it’s printed on the back of each smartwatch. However, you don’t always need to buy the exact band size to fit that case. For example, most 38mm bands fit on 38mm, 40mm, and 41mm watch cases. Some edge-to-edge styles appear slightly off, but they should still be secure.
Wrist size is also important. While every band has flexibility in sizing, you still want something that doesn’t have a massive tail that flops around or too little give that digs into your wrist. Measuring your wrist is always a good idea, but if you don’t have a ruler or measuring tape around, smaller wrists tend to fall between 130-150mm, and larger wrists are 180- 210mm or more. If there’s a range of sizes, opt for one that falls right in the middle of your size when possible.
Style
Always consider your wardrobe when selecting a band. Plenty of nylon and rubber bands come in fun, flashy colors and patterns, but those loud styles might not be ideal for everyday wear. Opting for something more muted might be a better choice if you only have one band.
Let’s be real, most smartwatches, including the Apple Watch, are undeniably sporty, no matter the band. Still, leather and metal bands can bring that more elevated look for the office or going out. However, these bands tend to be more subdued in color options, so you're limited to neutral colors or finishes. Luckily, that makes matching your wardrobe easier.
If you can swing it, getting two bands will allow you to have the best of both worlds. You can have loud and playful bands for workouts and casual wear. Neutral-colored or even leather or metal options can be used for more formal occasions.
