Before we dive into the shows, allow me to swing a personal spotlight onto something near and dear to my heart. After the debacle that was the TV-ified Halo, I didn’t hold much hope for Amazon’s Fallout series, but it has exceeded my expectations and then some. Even better, the companion piece DLC for Fallout 76, entitled Burning Springs, offers an enjoyable grind. After that season 2 finale pops, I recommend y’all give it a look-see.

Is What We're Watching and Playing Shaping Us?
Apparently, yes, this stuff really does get under our skin. New research suggests our favourite fictional worlds do more than entertain. They quietly shape what we’re into, how we spend our free time, and even how we see ourselves.
Australians are not just watching franchises anymore. We are stepping into them and letting them bleed into our identities. A YouGov study commissioned by Bethesda surveyed more than 1,000 Aussie adults who game or stream, and the takeaway is pretty clear. Entertainment is no longer background noise. As Fallout muscles its way into the current pop culture cycle, it is also highlighting something bigger. The stories we binge and the worlds we escape to are starting to influence who we think we are when the screen switches off.
- Real-world Activities & New Friendships: Most of these Aussies (88%) have been inspired to take part in real-world activities because of their fan love or “fandom”. Among them, one in three (33%) have made new friends who also enjoy the universe after watching a TV series such as Fallout, while 31% have been motivated to join online or in-person communities
- Shaping Identities:44% of these Aussies claim their fandom has influenced their personal identity
- Expanding Horizons: Looking beyond the TV content alone, Aussies surveyed choose to engage with corresponding video games out of curiosity (36%), a desire to experience more stories related to the world (28%) and its characters (28%), and for deeper immersion with the universe (26%)
