Pokémon Legends: Z-A will add a fresh batch of superpowered creatures to the franchise's Mega Pokédex — and here's every one revealed so far.
While the game is not expected to add any all-new Pokémon species, Legends: Z-A's setting within the region of Kalos, the home of the Mega Evolution ability, has made it a fitting title in which to introduce a number of never-before-seen designs, and give players something fresh to collect.
In the run up to Pokémon Legends: Z-A's launch for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 on October 16, 2025, The Pokémon Company has begun drip-feeding fans with new Mega Pokémon reveals — and one species has even already made its Pokémon anime debut.
Below, we'll recap every Mega Pokémon announced so far, and discuss a widely-shared leak of all the Mega Pokémon species fans now expect.
Mega Dragonite
The first new Mega Pokémon species to be revealed in over a decade was Mega Dragonite, the beloved Dragon/Flying-type pseudo-legendary from the franchise's original Kanto Pokédex. Mega Dragonite gains a large set of wings that sprout from its head, and a large jewel on its tail thats reminiscent of its earlier evolution Dragonair.
"For Mega Dragonite, ending a Pokémon match quickly is an act of kindness toward its opponent," reads the Pokémon Company's official blurb. "Its kindhearted nature gets amplified when it Mega Evolves, and it launches powerful attacks at its opponent with a smile. At the same time, if it senses someone in trouble, it has the kindness to instantly rush to their aid — even if it's in the middle of an intense battle."
Mega Victreebell
Second to be announced for Pokémon Legends: Arceus was another new Mega species hailing from the series' original 151 creatures: Victreebell. This Grass/Poison-type's Mega evolution features a more bulbous base, due to the volume of acid inside it, filling its mouth.
"Its body has swollen as a result of Mega Evolution," reads its official blurb. "Even the leaves on top of its head have grown bigger. It flaps the leaves on its sides and moves its large body by bouncing around. It opens its large mouth to let loose a Sludge Bomb. It looks more like a Victreebel when it has deflated. It has so much acid that even closing its mouth tight isn't enough to hold it in, so it contains the acid by wrapping its own vines around its throat."
Mega Hawlucha
Luchador-inspired Hawlucha also gets a Mega Evolution, which will hopefully ensure it ultimately gets a wider release in Pokémon Go, where it currently sits as a Mexican regional exclusive. This Fighting/Flying-type is something of a fan-favorite, and once again its Mega's design focuses on its appearance as a masked wrestler.
"It uses its muscles, bulked up by Mega Evolution, to take hit after hit from opponents' moves and flex its own strength," reads its official blurb. "After luring its opponent into attacking, it retaliates to make them flinch before diving at them using its signature move, Flying Press, to aim for victory. Before Mega Evolving, Hawlucha would sometimes let its guard down as it became caught up in parading its flashy moves, but with newfound confidence in its own defensive capabilities, it can now show off again and again to both its opponent and its Trainer. It lifts both hands and spreads its wings, constantly putting its beauty and tough pectoral muscles on full display."
Mega Malamar
The squid-like Mega Malamar features an enlarged brain, which it uses to boost its psychic powers. For example, in a social media campaign leading up to the creature's unveiling, fans were treated to footage of Lumiose City citizens celebrating the creature, having been convinced to become its biggest fans. But there's a darker side to this power, too, as Mega Malamar's ability to freely overwrite people's personalities or memories can apparently make your loved ones act like entirely different people.
"Its glowing, undulating tendrils are able to pick up on the feelings of those around it," reads the new Dark/Psychic-type Mega Evolution's official blurb. "It prefers battling with efficiency, using its powerful intellect to analyze the situation with levelheadedness as it fights. Mega Malamar views others — even Pokémon Trainers — as its pawns. If it disagrees with an order given to it by a Trainer, it will sometimes respond by hypnotizing them, making this an incredibly difficult Pokémon to interact with."
Mega Chesnaught
Revealed during September 2025's major Nintendo Direct alongside Mega Delphox and Mega Greninja, below, Mega Chesnaught is the final evolution of Kalos creature Chespin. Already a walking tank, Mega Chesnaught now gains additional armor on its back for its Mega Evolution.
"Energy from Mega Evolution has been channeled into its outer shell and throughout its body, resulting in a dramatic increase in its defensive capabilities," reads Mega Chesnaught's blurb. "The fur on its body has also grown and can act as an impact-absorbing cloak. Confident that it can withstand any sort of attack, it possesses a steadfast spirit and always remains levelheaded. When it removes a piece of its incredibly tough shoulder armor, spikes extend from the shield to form an axe-like weapon with a long handle."
Mega Delphox
Delphox, the final evolution of Fennekin, gains a long white strip of fur that looks almost beard-like. It now controls a pair of flaming branches that float by its side, and floats atop a third lit branch — a display intended to dazzle foes.
"In contrast to its disoriented opponents, Mega Delphox stays calm and collected as it deals damage by landing precise attacks," reads the creature's blurb. "Mega Delphox attacks its foes by skillfully coordinating its moves in tandem with the two lit branches floating nearby. And there’s more! These seemingly autonomous flames don’t just confuse the opponent — they can also be combined with the flames Mega Delphox spits from its mouth, forming a huge fireball that engulfs and burns its targets."
Mega Greninja
Greninja, meanwhile, the final evolution of Froakie, gains larger blue spikes on its head and can hang outside from a giant floating shuriken that's made of a "gel-like membrane secreted from its body."
"Unleashing the energy of Mega Evolution has dramatically improved Mega Greninja’s reflexes," reads its blurb. "It intentionally reveals itself to push opponents into attacking. Then, it detects their incoming attacks and moves so swiftly that it’s able to strike first. Normally, Greninja would appear in a flash and disappear like a ninja. Now that it has Mega Evolved, it no longer bothers to hide itself, demonstrating to opponents its confidence that it will win."
Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y
Also revealed during September 2025's major Nintendo Direct, this pair of Mega Evolutions will star in Pokémon Legends: Z-A's paid DLC, Mega Dimension. Each Raichu design incorporates its associated letter as part of its design, with one Raichu featuring an X-shaped tail, while the other sports a set of Y-shaped antlers.
Mega Raichu will be the third Pokémon to get a pair of Mega Evolutions, following the previously-released Mega Charizard X and Y, plus Mega Mewtwo X and Y. As yet, it's unclear when Mega Raichu will become available, as the DLC's story content is set to arrive after the launch of Pokémon Legends: Z-A. We'll update here when more is announced.
"The repulsion from the electromagnetic force generated by its two tails allows it to float as it moves," reads a blurb for Mega Raichu X. "Its ample subcutaneous fat can store up electric energy, letting it maintain a high electrical output and heightening its defensive capabilities! Using electromagnetism to propel itself swiftly through the air, it can take down opponents several times its size with a single blow of its electrically charged fists. It bears a distinctive resemblance to regular Raichu."
"Mega Raichu Y’s greatest strength is its ability to unleash its power instantaneously, so it excels in short, decisive battles," reads the blurb for Raichu's alternate Mega Evolution. "The amount of electricity it can generate in the electric sacs on its cheeks has been powered up. The energy generated in these cheek pouches is amplified as it courses in a zig-zag pattern between its tail and the spiky, horn-like fur on its head, letting it unleash powerful Electric-type moves. All this electric energy gives it a wild and combative temperament, causing it to eschew tactical maneuvers in favor of a straightforward approach to battling. It bears a distinctive resemblance to Pikachu."
And more to come...
In addition to these new Mega Pokémon species, a previous trailer confirmed the return of other, already-existing Mega Evoutions, such as Mega Kangaskhan, Mega Absol, and Mega Charizard X — though it's unknown as of yet whether every past Mega Evolution will be present in the game.
Regardless, Pokémon Legends: Z-A's central focus on Mega Pokémon is clear. The game's plot revolves around the seemingly-spontaneous Mega Evolution of local wild Pokémon, here dubbed as Rogue Mega Pokémon. Players will need to utilise their own Mega Pokémon to take them down, and you can also bring in help from another of your Team MZ allies to battle alongside you. But exactly what's going on here — and how the game will incorporate Zygarde into proceedings — are all questions for another day.
So far, each of the announced new Mega Pokémon have corroborated a widely-shared leak listing 27 species set to receive new Mega Evolutions within Pokémon Legends: Z-A — though the appearance of Mega Raichu for the game's DLC was not previously leaked.
A full list of leaked Pokémon expected to gain Mega Evolutions lies below, ordered by region:
With apologies to Flygon fans, these species are all of the ones that fans expect to encounter in Pokémon Legends: Z-A when it arrives. That said, it's worth reiterating that datamined information is not final, and it's likely that at least some of the game's Mega Pokémon may well be held back for the final game itself.
