Today Is the Last Day to Buy a New PS5 Before Prices Increase - IGN Image

Update 8/22: Here we are a day after Sony has raised the MSRP on all models of PS5, and only one retailer has actually raised the price. That retailer, unsurprisingly, is PlayStation Direct. All the other online stores are still selling the PS5 Pro, PS5 disc, and PS5 Digital Edition for their original prices. I still expect the prices to go up soon, but it's interesting that it's taking longer for the PS5 price hike to roll out than it did the Switch price hike earlier this month.

Below, you can find all the current prices for PS5. I'll keep updating this article as the price change rolls out.

It’s a tough time to be a gamer. Sony has just announced a price hike for all PS5 models, effective tomorrow, August 21. If you’ve been on the fence about buying a PS5, today may be your last chance for a long time to get one for today’s price. So if you don’t want to wait for a sale, whenever that may be, now’s the time to buy. Here’s where you can still get a PS5, PS5 Digital, or PS5 Pro at today’s lower pricing.

PS5 Price Change Details

PS5 Pro

  • Old Price: $699.99
  • New Price: $749.99

PS5 (Disc)

  • Old Price: $499.99
  • New Price: $549.99

PS5 Digital

  • Old Price: $449.99
  • New Price: $499.99

Every mainline model of PS5 is getting a $50 price increase starting August 21. It's unclear how quickly the new prices will go into effect at the various retailers, but in my experience covering the recent Switch price hike and the Xbox price hike a few months back, it doesn't take long.

PS5 Pro

The most powerful console on the market, and thus the most future-proof, is the PS5 Pro. This is the one to get if you can afford it – and you have a PS5-ready 4K TV that can display all of the features the PS5 Pro offers. There's no reason to wait for the price hike if you can lock in your purchase today.

PS5 Disc Edition

If the extra power of the PS5 Pro isn't worth the extra cost to you, then the standard PS5 will do just fine through the rest of this console generation. If you plan to play discs (even PS4 discs) on your console, then you'll want the one with a disc drive. Grab it before the price hike at the retailers above.

PS5 Digital Edition

For those who are ready to embrace an all-digital future, the digital ediiton is the one to get. It locks you in to the PlayStation Store, but Sony runs sales on there pretty often – and you can generally save even more if you're a PS Plus subscriber. Pick this one up before the price goes up to $500.
