Each year, LEGO releases a batch of Star Wars sets to coincide with May the Fourth. This year, most of the sets have arrived a bit early, on April 26. However, LEGO held one major set for release on May 4. It’s LEGO Star Wars The Mandalorian’s N-1 Starfighter (see it at LEGO Store), the latest in the Ultimate Collector Series. (We’ll have a “We Build” article for that in the next week or so).
For now, you can pick up any of the sets below to celebrate May the 4th in style.
New LEGO Star Wars Sets
The headliner of the bunch is the new The Mandalorian’s N-1 Starfighter, the latest addition to the Ultimate Collector Series (UCS), which are sets designed for adults and meant for display. This thing is a beauty, all sharp and narrow edges, clearly built for speed. It’s made up of 1,809 pieces and comes with Mandalorian and Grogu minifigures.
Aside from that, I have three favorites from the rest of the bunch. The first is a new take on the Razor Crest (see it at Amazon). It’s a great-looking build that adds a splash of color to Star Wars ship sets, which can often be overwhelmingly gray. It’s also a much cheaper alternative to the UCS Razor Crest set LEGO released four years ago.
Another favorite is Grogu (Mandalorian Apprentice) (see it at LEGO Store). LEGO has been somewhat hit or miss in the past with sets depicting Star Wars alien creatures, but I think this one absolutely nails it. It captures the essence of the lovable character, which is pretty impressive considering it starts as a pile of 1,200 blocks. It includes Grogu’s beskar armor and satchel, as seen in the upcoming movie The Mandalorian and Grogu, as well as a blue cookie for snack time.
Finally, there’s a new Darth Vader bust (see it at LEGO Store). It’s like the previous (hard to find) Darth Vader Helmet set, but the perspective is pulled back, giving us a wider view of the Sith Lord. It includes his shoulders and the chain holding his cape in place. It looks fantastic on its buildable pillar stand. It comes with an informational plate and a Vader minifigure.
Earlier this year, LEGO put out a series of Star Wars Smart Play sets, which feature Smart Brick technology. Smart Bricks are new bricks filled with tech that makes them light up and emit sounds from the films. They're pretty neat.
There are plenty more sets to choose from as well, some of which may even make it on our running list of the best LEGO Star Wars sets available. Happy Star Wars Day.
